Default Does a firewall do this??

Since im running xp home edition i beleive i have a firewall built in.

When im surfing i keep getting an ad saying my pc is showing my IP address leaving me vulnerable to attack.

Is this ad aimed at everyone or do they know im showing my IP address (if i am)?

If i am can i stop it happening?
    Cheers

It's perfectly normal to for sites to see your i.p Jaffa - as Aido said it's just a bullsh!t ad

You might wanna grab a third party firewall though as the XP built in one will only stop attacks on their way into you Pc - not on their way out - trojans and other 'overly talkative software' etc can still operate unhindered.

Agnitum Outpost Pro or the New Zone Alarm are pretty good - I use both.

You did not say if you were using

    DIAL-UP
    ADSL
    CABLE

most routers have some form of firewall

Another way would be to buy a cheap router if you are using Cable/ADSL and then setup the DHCP to give out IP addresses to your PC.

I have a NETGEAR 56K modem router for sale cheap if you want a router for a dialup

Im currently using a 56k modem but seriously thinking about upgrading to broadband, trouble is not sure which is best. Just been looking a satellite one that looks pretty good.
