    Default Best mp3 player?

    Hey there,

I have recently gone over to Broadband with a home network and am downloading loads of mp3s onto my crappy little computer in my bedroom (the nice one sits downstairs in pride of place). It's only got an old 330 MHz AMD K6-2 with about ninety-something in the way of RAM. My problem is that I don't have a good program for playing/organising all my mp3s.

I did have realOne player, but it takes about 1-2 mins for it to load up and shut down which is pretty frustrating, and if I try and do anything else like open up a web page whilst listening to any tracks they start to skip and stutter madly. I recently downloaded a nice little player called Quintessential which seems to use up a lot less resources and allows me to do other stuff whilst listening to my mp3s without it screwing up playback. However, it keeps on crashing and sometimes takes my computer down with it.

So, does anybody know of any good mp3/general audio playin software which allows things like playlists but which doesn't require much juice to run. Personal recommendations are always the best way to go with this kind of thing, so please tell me what you reckon.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Lizardo.

music matc 7.5 is awesome. I have some quibles with its music library feature (not auto updating when new files are added, you have to do it manualy) but it still is the best fature wise!

    Thanks YouSuck,

I might give that one a try as whilst I like winamp's interface it still seems to take an age just to open the player.

To make it load faster highlight the MP3's you wanna listen to in Explorer.

Right Click and select "Play in Winamp"

This is faster than loading winamp then adding the files.

You can also drag and drop files onto the playlist from explorer.

Have already tried that tactic oE, but thanks for the suggestion. Am going to give musicmatch a try when I get back from work tonight, but I'm starting to think that my old PC may just be too crap to cope with any kind of player. Oh woe is me! I'd better start saving those pennies for a new machine...

JUst an update to say that I've been using Musicmatch for the last few days and it's been a dream to use so far. Nice and quick to load and other programs don't interfere with playback. Thanks again for the suggestion YouSuck.
