    Default ntl di4000n- almost useless?

i take it as these box's only have a usb and no rs serial then the only way to get it working would be to source 1 locally as there is no way to change the network id etc of an out of town sourced box with out using libdebug?

not sure about the N version but mine is 4000-T and its only got usb and ethernet ports so libdebug wont work as this uses rs232 port to comunicate.

Set everything on the first page of the engineers menu to that of your area, leave for a few second and the network id will change itself... reboot and it should update :-)
    Hope this helps..

it is not guaranteed that the network id will change automatically though (from what i have read here anyway) and what about resetting the PIN? or isnt the PIN needed at this piont?

    i keep reading conflicting articles

    This is what i did...

Open the box and remove the red jumper, replace after a few secs then boot up box without cable feed. The network ID should read ***** now enter your new pin and then reconnect cable feed, power down box and reeboot to engineers menu with cable feed connected. The ID should now be set!

No, it's not guaranteed that the network id will change, but it has had varying success and if you have no other option it is worth trying.

To reset the pin you will need to pull the red jumper to clear the sram, then when you first enter the engineers menu after this, you will be able to set a new PIN.

This has worked for a lot of people, but it has caused grief for others, try it at your peril!

And if it doesn`t work, does that mean the box is useless or can it be fixed ?

Who knows!, there have been successes and failures, but if you have no rs232 port then what are the options?

Well, I pulled the Red Jumper, and lo and behold I could reset my PIN.

Trouble is, I now have no network ID as its set to 09999 and the box displays error 12 / Error 20.

What a load of shit that is

Anyone who has been in this situation (from other threads), have u got any fixes since it also happened to you?

Mine boots into the nrlaml NTL channel line-up thing, with channel selector etc, but doesn`t get any channels.

I`m gonna try leaving it on overnight in the hope it`ll auto-update itself with its network ID.

I have them here, just no way to enter them into the box.

If I`ve wankered my box just for PPV movies I`ll be seriously gutted!
Though I guess it`ll be my own fault for having eyes bigger than my belly

m8 i dont think it will work or it didnt for me anyway.

i have my net id too has i have a subbed box so i got it from that.

i had all channels apart from fta and ppv so i reset the pin by pulling the red jumper (big mistake) now my network id is 09999 and i set my pin and freq, this is were the fun begins.... connected back up to live feed for 2 days with and without talkback enabled, and got nothing but a splash screen saying tw broadband. the box is completly knacked until i can find a serail to usb cable cos iv tried a usb-serial adapter and it dont work the other way (only makes a usb port into a serial port ) what we need is a cable that will convert a serial port into a usb.

until then the box is stuffed.

i take you didnt just connect serial cable to ya pc and the other end (usb) to ya ntl reciever and that you used an rs232 adaptor(null modem) at the serial end?

    Hi,

Have you tried a forced update?

Hold down power button at the front and switch on from mains, you should have 0000 at front, then press favourites-interactive-tvguide-tv, now you should have 4321 at front then press ok.
now screen will go in dos mode and box will go through it's tests.

Or, instead of pressing 4321 try 1234, it can take several hours for anything to happen, but once it starts it does sort some boxes out.

If the flash is being updated it should say DSEA on front panel, just leave it on that and the tv screen it should start scrolling like a hex file, leave it until it completes then reset the box.

If the box hangs, repeat the forced update again.

I found the following on another board:-

I did the 1234 then switched it off after a minute.

Then I did 4321 and screen comes up with loads of DOS stuff, e.g.

    SCAN: Idbri difference 0x0004

and loads of other weird stuff like that

If all else has failed then it should be worth a try!

I presume you mean the buttons on the box, but I only have these buttons on the remote.
My buttons on the box are Channel +/-, Volume +/-, Services and Select - I have a 4000-N.

I`ll have a play as I can get 4321 onto the box, but was unsire about what to press to execute this to force update the box.

    *** EDIT ***
    I have tried 1234 and 4321 on my 4000-N.
when I submit the code the box displays NLT, then Err12, then boots to normal digi screen, but with no channels available or anything.

Any ideas - is this the correct force update code for my box ?

I have done 3 4001 by pulling the red jumper and replacing it with box off, connecting to feed and booting up in engineers menu. Setting everthing on the first page (default freq, etc...) setting the pin and wah lah by the time i get to look at the netowrk id it has been set.... Ive tryed it a few times with each box and they all set the network id near enough str8 away....

Oh i used to have problems with this it turned out my cable feed was sh*t.......

What is the difference between a 4001 / 4000-n box?
I have been told the 4001 has an rs232 port, so you could do it this way if you needed to....
Gonna try this method now, see what happens...wish me luck
