    Default Modem Cables

is there a way to make / repair the modem cable?

My cable has 2 identical (transparent) endings one goes into the Laptop Modem, the second goes into adapter that fits BT socket, or international socket without the adapter. I thing they call it RJ11.

Well, I tried to order similar cables but seems difficult. 2 other companies sent me cables, but are BT ones and actually not compatible with my modem.

I wonder if I can replace the cable endings! or any advice would be appreciated

These cables come in various types :-

2 wire, 4 wire - straight through connection and crossover.

Use a multimeter to determine what pin goes to what and then nip down your local computer fair for the correct cable m8t.

you can get them from maplins - but by the time you get the plugs and the crimper you might as well just buy a cable from a computer fair.

another cheep way you can fix this, if the phone socket you use isn't the main one and you don't plug your phone into it, then open it up and connect pins 2&3 together and pins 4&5,

Only do this if there is no capacitor inside and if you don't plug your phone into the socket.

chances are you modem uses pins 1&4 on the rj11, most use pins 2&3. It's worth a try with the two you've already ordered.

If it doesn'y work make sure you remove the wires from you phone socket.

    thanks M8s
beleive me I have so many cables bought online and none of them worked, and one bought from computer shop which I changed 3 times, but eventually they gave me a cable with only 2 wires in the middle. this is the only one worked.
Tha's why it would be interesting to just change the RJ11 plug if it gets broken.
If u r using a lap top and move around, beleive me these transparent plastic pliugs get broken easily.
