    Default DI 4000 headache

    I am extremely pissed off, i got a hold of a 4000 box with rom 10 card paired to box. I hacked it following all instructions, got it to work all channels activated. The problem began when i couldnt order the ppv as i or the person who gave me the box didnt know the pin. Well as most of you know the 4000 hasn't got a rs 232 port (damn)
    So i had to pull the jumper to clear the pin. But this also resets the net ID back to 09999, i was under the impression that when local frequency is entered in page 1 this will update to local net ID, well it hasn't and thats been ages now with talkback on and off, I know rst has had the same problem and i was wondering if any others out there has and managed to resolve it. I was also wondering is there any way usb can be used for libdebug as there must be some way companies can screen and clean and test these boxes.
    :grr:

    Ive just read on modhack that a little interface can be made with a max232 to enable lidabug access if you look in the box you can see that the serial interface is enabled all the way up to the missing max232 and missing com port

    I am in the same position as you guys - I have a 4000-N with a NetID of 09999 that I can`t reset.

    Is this a definate none-starter or could it possibly be the wrong wiring?

    What is the exact error your getting, is it when using Libdebug or aren`t u even getting that far ?

    I found this on modshack, which might be useful...?

    After you have built it and got it working (best test is to turn LEDS on and off) then you have got ID and tried change ID using cable.cfg and it still doesn't work then bear in mind that probably on the 4000 boxes you need to use a010 for get network ID and a061XXXXX (where XXXXX is your netowrk ID) for set network ID not the default get and set in cable.cfg because that uses the 4 command not the a command.
    That help at all ?

    Have you tried lighting up the LEDs as the quote says?
    Or do you get a total failure of the COM port so you can`t even attempt this ?

    and it set the network id no problem remodded my rom10 card and reset ppv pin and everything works even ppv

    This sounds promising.Maybe this should be made into a sticky with a "how to" mod a 4000 etc etc

    yes it took me all day but ive got mine working
    btw even with the interface working correctly libdebug still reports a com error when first started (i think this is because it uses diferent instuctions for the 1000 and dont understand the 4000 reply) the command to update the net id was a06xxxxx not a061xxxxx you can send this from the quick command box. (under file menu i think) before trying this i had reconfigured the interface (max232 conections) about 100 times. and i ended up with more things conected than is probly needed.
    the end conections were

    plug->max
    2 -> 14
    3 -> 13
    5 -> 15(earth)
    7 -> 8
    8 -> 7

    max -> box
    9 -> 9
    10 -> 10
    11 -> 11
    12 -> 12
    16 -> 16 (+5v)
    15 -> 15 (earth)

    hope this helps

    the interface is :

    needed parts :
    ic max232
    caps 4x 10uf elect

    16 in box +5v - pin 16 max232
    12 in box - pin 9 max232
    pin 8 max232 - tx pin 3 db-9f
    11 in box - pin 10 max232
    pin 7 max232 - rx pin 2 db-9f
    pin 14 max232 - dcd pin 1 db-9f
    any gnd - pin 15 max232 - gnd pin 5 db-9f

    the caps go:

    + to pin 1 on max232 - to pin 3 on max232
    + to pin 4 on max232 - to pin 5 on max232
    + to pin 2 on max232 - to pin 16 on max232
    + to pin 15 on max232 - to pin 6 on max232

    the part in box were u need to solder to is u8600

    u then need to edit ur cfg file
    remove the 4 and replace with a
    ie. 4061xxxx to a061xxxxx etc
    run libdebug then power 4000 box
    then click on set network id
    all working.
