Error Code 10 means the hardware cannot initialise.
I did the wireless trip a little while ago, and, like you I tried to do it "on the cheap" but it was simply a waste of time. I tried 3 different solutions from 3 different manufacturers, 2 of them simply killed XP stone dead while the 3rd worked fine so long as you were in the same room as the access point (which kind of defeats the object really).
Eventually I "liberated" a Cisco Aironet WAP & WiFi Card from work and they work perfectly (mind you, the Cisco kit would ordinarily cost around £600 so I would expect it to work for that kind of money).
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it
