I haven't had it done personally, but 3 people I work with have and they swear by it. They said it doesn't take too long and they could see perfectly the next day, and no pain. If I needed glasses I definiately think I would go for this option.
The guy who sits accross from me was thinking about doing it but his doctor recommended against it. Thing to remember is that it can only be done once. (Talk to a GP first, make sure you can an unbiased view...)
There is a new procedure out, but for the life of me I cannot remember what its called or if it helps with the above problem, sorry.
Try Gentoo, the linux source distro...
Currently Playing: Viewtifull Joe (GC), Mario Kart : Double Dash (GC), Mario & Luigi Superstars (GBA).
I had Lasik 8 months ago. And my eye sight is now nearly 20-20 Vision.
It cost's around £1800 and i had mine done at Ultralase in Leeds.
They were very professional and explained every step of the procedure fully.
The actual surgery didn't hurt but was quite uncomfortable. I was in some pain after as your eye's are really sensitive to light for the first day or so. Also not being able to rub your eye's for 2 weeks is quite hard to do.
You can have the surgery done more than once as the offer a free second op if your eye site is not to a certain standard after 6 months.
Things can go wrong as with any surgery and i would only recommed it if she really hate wearing glasses or contact.
It is the best thing i have ever done. Being able to get up on a morning and not messing with lenses is great and it's great help for swimming too.
I went for mine doing but I have 18 scars on my eyes (10 on one side and 8 on the other) so they wouldnt do it.
Apparently there is a new machine due to come onto the market that justs burns the parts of your eye that need doing and not the whole of the surface.
It might be worth asking about this m8 , but for the life of me I cant remember what the procedure is called.

I had PRK done in 1995 at the Optimax clinic and the surgeon made a right fook up of the operation by not properly aligning the laser during treatment to my right eye. I am currently undergoing new trials of Wavefront laser surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital to correct the damage caused by the Optimax surgeon. It all comes down to the skill of the treating surgeon. After my bad experience I did a lot of research into this and IMHO there are only 2 refractive eye surgeons in the UK who I trust to be the best and have recommenended to others. They are Mr David O'Brart at St. Thomas Hospital London and Mr Julian Stevens at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Incidentally, the surgeon who messed up my vision is currently this week appearing before the GMC and might be the 1st UK refractive surgeon to be struck off. Check out this excellent website for unbiassed views of other people who have had laser surgery. www.lasik-eyes.co.uk There are a lot of cowboys operating from the ever increasing private clinics so please be careful.
I was reading something about this a while ago, they weren't sure about long term effects..
The story said something about the cover of the eye never really healing properly and they think it could come loose in like 10-20 years down the road and you'd be well f00ked then..
Would like to get it done but the above puts me off way too much.
PRK Eye Surgery is a older type of procedure. It is cheaper than Lasik and Ultralase won't perform that anymore. It is also more painfull and take longer to heal.
I have also heard bad reports about optimax and was told to stay well clear.
Panter :- Hope you get your eyes sorted.
Cheers m8. There's not a day goes by that I don't regret having my eye butchered by Optimax cowboys. I only wish I had use of the Internet back then to do my own research. So far I've had 3 operations on my right eye at Moorfields to try and correct their handywork. Technology has moved on a bit since my PRK but there's a newer safer procedure called LASEK (not to be confused with LASIK). It's safer than lasik because it doesn't cut a flap and is said to be better for low to moderate shortsight. Customised Wavefront is said to be the new dogs bollox in laser eye surgery as it claims to give you better sight than you could achieve before with glasses. Optimax are just a "pile it high, sell it cheap" cowboy outfit who put profit ahead of patient care.Originally posted by Mr_Flash
