Default DVD movie copy on XBox

    Hi,

Heard a rumour that it is possible to copy a DVD movie onto the XBox hard drive when EvoX, chip and extra HD is installed.
Is this possible? I have looked at the files on a DVD movie disc and it is not immediately obvious which files would need to be copied.

Why are you wanting to do this ? It possible to copy the movie onto a Xbox with a Larger HDD fitted into it and a VOB player installed to play the files directly but it seems a bit pointless - the movie will be 4-8gig and will be split into 1gig VOB files with ascending numbers - look for the biggest set of files that end in 1_1.vob, 1_2.vob etc probally 4 to 8 of them. Personally I would copy the DVD but there you go.

The reason for the question is that, as I haven't got a DVD writer, I would like to be able to copy a rented DVD or 2 on the HD and watch them again after taking it back.

Fair enough - VOB play back on the Xbox is pretty experimental at the moment anyway but good luck

    - check www.xboxmediaplayer.com for details on its current state.

    Christ! Forget it.

I use my XBox to watch the sample VOBs from DVD releases and the quality is so poor that it's not worth it. You would be better off downloading the DIVX version of the DVD and watching it from the HD that way!

Either that or get a DVD-ROM drive for your PC and rip to DIVX on your PC. www.vcdhelp.com will aid in showing you how to do this. With the new version of XBox Media Player you can play the DIVX in quality that is near DVD and if you rip the AC3 (Dolby Digital) data it will use that too so you could fit more movies on your HD than a DVD movie which can be up to 9GB in size!!!

If your xbox is chipped then the macrovision protection will be off. Just dump it onto a video and save hours of farting around?

No surround sound on Video though - kind of makes it a waste of time.

If you can get hold of the latest XBMP 2.2 cvs edition it fully supports vob files and also keeps the correct aspect ratio so quality is 100% , and has shoutcast support too!!!
