I hate people calling Football "Soccer"!

I hope people agree with me here but I hate the fact some people, mainly yanks call our beloved game "soccer"
We invented the game.
We called it Football
Your FOOT is used to kick the BALL.
yes there are other times where you catch, throw and head the ball, but generally I would say the ball is being kicked 80% of the time at least.
All these other sports that use the name football spend more time carrying the ball in their hands than kicking.
Aussie Rules Football
American Football
Rugby Football League
Rugby Football Union
there are probably more.

American Football is the worst, they kick the ball the least, the ball isnt a ball, its not fuking round its egg shaped, they refer to their sport as it being football! its not football, cos football is!

I even hear rugby players in interviews after the game saying "we played some good football today...etc". Did they?, when? All I saw was a game of rugby, did I miss it, did they play some while I went for a piss?

Stop IT Now.

Come on lets start a petition and get the government to sanction it, we can at least start getting it right in our own country!

Soccer!, peh! I fuking hate that description!

You`ve got to take into account all those dumb people on the other site of the pond saying `Hey this aint proper football - where is the quarterback`.

Just weigh it up, and ask yourself which is the more interesting game? A game where they can substitute whole sides for offence and defence. Or proper Football.

But you are from Leeds, they aren't playing much football there at the moment, they might be better off playing soccer. The way they are going they might just scrape together enough players for a ping pong game.

I hate it when the Yanks call it soccer, but really, they are right. *ssshhh, you didn't hear me say that, right?*

In the days when rugby was first being played in the posh schools in the UK, the old toffs nicknamed it rugger, for short. So, the same went for football, or it's proper term, association rules football.
They took the 'soc' out of association and made it soccer, for short.

Football, really is a generic term for all things to do with a ball and a foot, however infrequent they kick it.

For the exact same reason as I said in the very last sentence. As long as the game involves a ball and a foot at some stage,then they could call it football if they wanted to I suppose. We may seem to forget that rugby is actually called rugby football and they kick the ball as infrequent as American football.

I know this thread is well over a year old but me and my pals were having this exact same argument in the bar after football a few weeks back.

A fella who had been watching the game came up 2 us in the bar and said that we played a great game of soccer. and the c*nt was English!

We ripped him to shreads after that. and rightly so in my opinion!
