Default 1 & 2 Meg cheap home DSL very soon (Fed up of NTL good news)

F off NTL i'm canceling as soon as this launch's

At last a service provider has launched a product that many home users have been looking for - a 1Mbps and 2Mbps product at an affordable price. The provider in question is Internet Central, who as well as been an ISP are also a licensed Regional Telecommications Operator.

The all critical pricing is £29.99+VAT for a 1Mbps line, and £39.99+VAT on the 2Mbps service. Both services run at a 50:1 contention, making the service suitable for home and SOHO type business use. The basic line rental is a no-frills package, but an additional 3 options providing email services are available.

Can you get it? Well the service should be available from 3rd March 2003, on all ADSL enabled exchanges. Internet Central are hoping that lead times of around 10 working days for installation will be possible. A migration package will be setup around mid-April for those transferring from an existing ADSL service.

This is new info, they haven't released much information on it yet apart from it will be all adsl exchanges and not just LLU ones - you will be tied to a 12 month contract, and it will only be a connection, no other services (email, web hosting etc).

This certainly does look interesting, I'm holding off making an order till more info comes to light tho.

    Default No Frills Light 2000 (2Mb/s / 256Kb/s) monthly £39.99

    www.internet-central.net

I've just ordered the 2mbit package costing £70.50 to setup, phone them this morning, where they checked my exchange and all being well, shortly after the launch date 2mbit will go live I've been paying BT £29.99 for over a year and well was going to switch as soon as somebody could offer me a 1mbit link, but 2mbit for £39.99+ vat per month is amazing value.

    Will let you know progress....

    Rumors

I read somewhere, cant really remember where, that Internet Central are going to block or already have blocked the use of p2p programs, so I phoned them up today and they said that they have not blocked the use of p2p or newsgroup services and they dont plan on blocking them either.

    Default Monday 3rd March

Well guys, not long to go before I know if the 2mbit ADSL package is available to me, basically so far I cannot fault the way in which any calls to http://www.internet-central.net/ are handled, basically I have phoned to ask questions and check on status of my 2mbit order, and I am aways greeted with a very polite, technical advice - up to minute status on my order. So far all lights look green for me, if you visit the web site and put in your telephone number - the system checks against BT exchange info and reports back. Mine says :-

    Exchange is ADSL enabled

512K Service Available [Green] <- Means pass checks for service
    1mbit Service Available [Green]
    2mbit Service Available [Green]

& it reports correctly that ADSL is already enabled on my line.

Can't wait tomorrow is crunch day, to see if I can get the 2mbit ADSL enabled on my line - final checks tomorrow morning, as it also comes down to distance from the exchange and line quality, but like the guy said, so far everything is a green light.. will update tomorrow on further progress.

They don't provide newsgroup access, it's pure connectivity only.

You will also have to be less than 3.5Km from the exchange (line length) and have no more than 45db of noise on your line.
In other words, if you could only get RADSL the first time around then you won't be getting this service.

Not necessarily, it could be any number of things causing the problem. Could be the banks server, could be something holding you up "en route", absolutely anything (inc your ISP).
Next time you have a problem accessing a site, do a tracert and see where the hold up is.

    EDIT:
If you do online banking via HTTP then I would start to panic anyway, you should be using HTTPS.

    Default Time has Nearly Come

Guys, update on my 2mbit service, have today received a email from BT OpenWorld saying that they will stop my ADSL service from the 19th March 2003, but to allow a further 5 days for the service to be taken off all together (emmmmmm)... anyway, I have also today emailed Internet-Central and advised them that my line should be deactivated (BT OpenWorld) from March 24th and would like their service to start as close to that date as possible. Also IC have tested my line - and as such have said that it looks like my 2mbit service is a go. Will update as soon as I have had a reply back from IC, hopefully tomorrow.

    Drogo.
