Default Your Digital Smartbox is being updated????

Your Digital Smarbox is being updated this may take a few minutes.

I get this message as soon as I switch on box. I have tried the forced udate 4321. All I get there is a scrolling list of Hex and Baud rate not found Baud with in 25Khz and it continues on its way. How long should I try this for? Left it for anhour with no change. I also tried the removing jumper that did nowt at all.
    Any advice?

The network Id for your area is 40981, but I am not sure about the frequency. Ask around or go down to a mates house and read it of their box from the engeer's menu.

    Hi

The frequency is the first field on page 1 of the engineers menu...It can't hurt to try as u can always change it back.

    Cheers

    Hi True

Have you tried holding the up and down buttons on the front of the box as you apply the power? it should say pace then four dashes ---- then let go after loader screen appears on tv.....also have box hooked up via scart and change channel on tv to the correct av channel (there is no pin switching to do this for u as u would normally expect). where did you get 683 from?

Let us know how u get on

    Cheers

I already have another box working and I know how to get into the engineers menu. The trouble with this box is it NEVER goes into the engineers menu. It just shows a box with "Your smartbox is being updated " and in the bottom corner the T/W logo. I have tried many time sbut it just doesn't change.
I got the frequency from my orking box. The 683 was wrong. I got the right one which is as you said 619.

"Your smartbox is being updated " means the box is trying to lock on to the network. what you need to do is try and get into the ENG Menu and check the Freq thats where the problem could be. or try a m8s box in your place

I have a similar problem when trying to do a forced update on a 1000 box. Pulling the red jumper made no difference. The net id and frequency are correct.

But I think the problem is due to the track being cut and thus the STB is stuck in an endless loop (baud rate displayed etc).

I am going to try and solder a wire to bridge the link, this might work. May be you could give this a try!

Spadge I was thinking along the same lines m8. As you say the track has been cut and it seems to be stuck as you say in a loop. I think I will also try to resolder the link.
Let me know how you get on.

good luck m8, I've had it confirmed on another forum that the talkback HAS to be enabled for a force update to complete.

One idea is to put a switch on the link, this way you can enable and disable talkback easily!

Alternatively, use another tuner unit which hasn't been modified (unfortunately I don't know of anyone else with a 1000 box!)

Let me know how ya both get on!

    bugger!

I haven't had chance to do mine yet as I'm no expert with a soldering iron.

Will let you know how I get on though when I do!
