Default dvd writer and cd writer

    hi all

i have currently a cd writer and dvd rom drive on my system

i am thinking about getting a dvd writer and was wondering if it was possible to keep all 3 units on my comp. i have space but no spare power sockets

how could i do this ?

you might ask why i want to do this, its so i can use my cd writer for burning mp3s etc thus lightning the load on the dvd writer

    cheers

No spare power sockets?? as in no spare connectors from the PSU??. Get a Y-splitter if that's the case (couple of £) and use that. Unless you've a really poor PSU it won't cause any problems.

any connector will do but i gotta ask do u have only one hard drive and 3 optical drives?

or do you have more than 4 IDE devices (IDE the connector on the mother board) cause if so u will need an expansion ide pci card which is aprox $60-80 CAN or 30-40 quid there

please pm 4me2, ABCMan or Czarjunkie with an explanation why you failed to post or request help posting the email headers of the email you mentioned (along with the full headers) too late Ive banned him after no response for 48 hours (4me2)

Buy SCSI. limitations on the number of drives dosent really matter then. the only real limit is the size of the case you have. a minimum of 7 drives on each connecter some will go to 14 or even 21. 2 drives on 1 connector of IDE is too limiting.

Then angain iif you have never heard that you can use power spliters i expect that SCSI means nothing to you.

    (SCSI is pronounce scuzy)

I have a two motherboards at home with built in IDE RAID contollers. These are really nice as you can have loads of devices.

My Athlon mobo will support 12 IDE devices and my P4 will support 6!

IDE drives are cheaper than SCSI so get a Promise RAID controller. They are only about £40 if memory serves

I hope ur not on a 300W PSU and ur using Y Splitters to support 4+ Devices. If you are i would get a new PSU which is a tad more powerful to feed all ur devices power.

I have a nice 450W PSU with enough individual connectors for all devices. Runs quite nicely too.
