    Default Dentists

    After just reading this
    TOOTHLESS ON DENTAL VISITS

THOUSANDS of Brits would rather endure pain than go to the dentist.

Nearly 60 per cent are scared of going for a check-up - and 12 per cent refuse to make extra visits on top of their yearly appointment.

Top excuses in a gum disease survey were "What you don't know can't hurt you" and "I'm too busy".

    http://www.people.co.uk/

it made me wonder who here is scared of the dentist and when was the last time you went ?

I myself havent been since November and Im due again soon for a check up.
There are 3 types of people in the world - those who make things happen, those who watch things happen; and those who wondered what happened.

Used to be scared, **** knows why as the first time I went it was full of pussy Now it's just blokes and fat birds

Still paying my Denplan subs so will need to go back, so far they've been 100% on the checks so fingers crossed

I go the knock-out jab first. Never feel a thing and it's a really weird sensation when you come around.

I really hate going to the dentist. I haven't been for about 2-3 years

My teeth are fine though, only two fillings (caused by my wisdom teeth wearing down two other teeth). Brush morning and night and floss once a week. I think dentist fee's are a con, as long as it's not effecting my eating or I have worse breath than my dogs then I don't see the point in going more than once a year.

I've heard that there are new surgerys now that use Laser Drills rather than the old water powered ones. You can have a full root canal with just a local anesthetic and not feel a thing.
Gonna have to hunt one of these places down next time

    Default I'm Regular ?

I go regularly, usually three times a year, more if treatment is required.
I never have any form of anesthetic.
I've had roots removed, canals done, fillings and even had a tooth out, all without any form of anesthetic whatsoever.

I've even had a complete big toe nail removed without anesthetic, but not at the dentist's.

Every year in this country, between one and five persons, in every thousand (varies up and down with area), die due to the effects of the anesthetic, well it won't be me M8s.

    Why take the risk ?

    You're a hard ******* mate

I've had the toe nails done a few times, the anesthetic never worked so eventually they just took it off

The next two times I was pissed up and kicked one off one week then the other one off the week after - thought it was just a really bad hangover when I woke up!!

Anesthetic has been known to claim a few victims, thats why dentists now go for the sedation method (which hasn't claimed anybody).
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

Don't think you need to go to a specialist dentist for sedation, it's just that not all dentists offer it (could be wrong though).
The difference between anesthetic & sedation is that when you are sedated, you are actually still semi-conscious whereas with anesthetic you are actually rendered unconscious.
My dentist has actually had a conversation with me while I am sedated, I didn't believe him the first time he told me so he taped it the next time and played it back to me (needless to say I could recount none of it).
The only drawback to sedation is that you need somebody with you, as you don't really "come round" fully for at least 2 hours after you have been woken back up.

I go every 6 months without fail.
The last time I went I had a pain in one of my teeth and the dentist injected the area and removed the nerve out of my tooth perfectly.
Not a spot of pain or discomfort at all.

    Default That's nothing

I went this week and haven't been for two years.

    Result is £3600 bill

7 fillings, 1 extraction and a bridge of one tooth but because I left it so long the teeth I need the bridge to connect to are a bit rotten so need work done on them too.

So that's two 45 minute appointments under sedation.

    First = £1600
    Second = £2000

    All my fault mind you.

    Can anyone beat that?

That's what I have. I'm still fully awake (so the dentist says) but can never remember a thing about it. Like been pissed up but without the hangover.

I normally go once a year but last time the hygeneist was cleaning my teeth and chipped the front one and they just felt wrong! My dentist also uses sandblasting instead of drilling and doesnt hurt a bit.

I am not scared of going to the dentist but I dont like seeing the Hygeneist, that seems to hurt more than anything the dentist has ever done and I am supposed to have that every year!!

I once went out with a dentist 4 a while, she told me some real horror stories....
    Like....
Some of her fellow students (when she was at college) said they wanted and LOVED to inflict pain on people!!! :erm

One of her mates, with her own surgery now, gives the patients she don't like less "pain relief" than the ones she does like

So.... be VERY nice to your dentist!!! :cheese:

    LOL
