Divx/xbmp Guide For The Idiot

HI all, I know the question has been asked many times before, believe me I have searched and tried most of the posts here.
I simply cannot get XBMP2 to play DIVX movies or anything else.
I got so p*ssed off that I deleted all 50 of my DIVX movies from PC.
I copied XBMP2 to XBOX using BXPLORER and it runs but thats it.
I wanted to play the movie from a DVD-R that has several movies on in DIVX format.
I have EvoX on and XBoxplorer(Enigmah chip) is there any IDIOT proof guide I can follow word for word that assumes I know nothing at all about the XBOX(not far from the truth).
I believe the part I am probably getting wrong is the bit where you have to edit a config file to point XBMP to the DVD(I am guessing here).
Please somebody have pity on a fool and help me out or better still send me the edited files ready to copy to my XBOX.

what happens when you try to play the movies on the DVDR ?
And what version of XMP are you using ? I have had some troubles in the past and may be able to help you with the config.

XBMP version 2.2, the trouble is I dont know what bit to edit so the XBOX will play from dvd-r. I have not tried to drop a movie on to the hard drive as I wanted to play them from a DVD-R that has 6 different Divx movies on it. I simply copied the Divx movies from PC to DVD-R (is this wrong?) is there a file I should be putting on the DVD-R disc itself along with the movies?

FIrst of all get xbmp 2.3 its better at this and iits got some fixes in it. Second you need to burn the DVDR with the divx movies on it in a certain way - just like an Xbox backup -

Mode 1, UDF up to 128 character file name length 8+3 tree

You dont need any extra files or folders - it make no differnce.

so talk me though it- you fire up XBMP - select movies - select shared folder - then what - it hangs ??

The lines in the Config file need to point the DVD playback to the d: - Version 2.3 has these line clearly shown so again I recommend if you want an easy life get the newer version.

Hi maax

I was in this position a few weeks ago and it was very frustrating so I know how you feel.
I dont have Evox or anything like that loaded to HD

I use a boot disc on CDRW to get XBMP 2.3 onto my xbox.
Eject boot disc when loaded and replace with DVD-R full with avi films.
Select my videos
select DVD ROM UDF
Select the movie you want to play.
Then sit back and watch.


If you want me to send you a CDRW with the player on that works in our XBOX, I can do that for you.

I use NERO 5.5.10.15 to burn my AVI files using the UDF mode which has a check box for XBOX compatable files.

I could do with some for AVI films.

If you have your X permenantly hooked up to your PC then you don't have to bother bruning your movies to CDR etc.

You can just run Relax Server on your PC and the Xbox will then stream the movies live from the PC, makes life much easier

You need to edit your config.xml file for this to tell it where your PC and its files are etc.
