    Default MOT/Brakes/caliper tool

    Hi all,

Well, finally put my Pug 405 GTDT through its MOT.
Failed on the only thing I thought it would pass on... brakes.

Fail sheet said 'N/S rear footbrake not working'.

Stripped down the caliper yesterday afternoon, cleaned it up... pads OK, disc on its way out but the braking does seem to be fine.

So... 1) is there any other possible cause for the footbrake not working (although as I've said, it seems to be OK)

    2) I can't get the b'stard caliper piston back in... apparently I need a tool to do this... any suggestions were to get hold of one ?

    I'd appreciate any help.

    Cheers,
    sub.

Mate you need a windback tool to do this job. You will see the caliper it has slots in the end of it which locate pegs on the tool. The tool is a g clamp that winds the caliper back in as it pushes. You can fabricate somthing to do the job but the tools arnt that expensive. 1 thing you need to remember is to dissconect the hand brake lever on the caliper and push it fully out to allow the wratchet machanism inside to wind back. Hope this makes sense mate

Ah, nice one. I'll pop down the motor factors later and see what they've got... just hope I haven't ballsed it up with the molegrips yesterday...

    Cheers,
    sub.
