    Default Stop error 1E (Win2KSP3 + 3 x 200GB HDs)

I recently added a third WD2000JB disk to my PC. I already have two of them connected to an Adaptec ATA1200 PCI controller. My m/b is an ASUS P4S8X with f/w 1.03

With two of the disks, everything is fine. Adding the third one on the Adaptec generates a STOP error 1E during boot. Same thing in Safe mode. However, I am able to boot in Debug mode (whatever debug means).

Any hints as to what is causing this? Anybody has had success with 3 x 200Gb disks under Windows 2000?

    My current configuration is:
    MB ASUS P4S8X
    VGA ASUS 9180Video
    RAM 1Gb (2x512 DDR 333)
    PCI IDE : Adaptec 1200A
HD : 1 x Seagage 45Gb as Primary Master (System)
    3 x WD 2000JB (200Gb) connected to the Adaptec
    OS Windows 2000 Professional SP3

Check your termination / SCSI ID's.

Also check the firmware and drivers for the controller are upto date.

Try swapping the ID's and putting the new disk on the end of the chain etc.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for the posting. In the meantime, I got round to solve the problem.

For several reasons I decided to re-install Windows 2000 from scratch. For unknown reasons, re-installing the OS and the Adaptec drivers all worked fine.

The interesting lesson learnt from this exercice is that when Windows 2000 won't start properly, apart from safe mode, we've got Debug mode. In my case, although safe mode failed, debug mode did allow the OS to boot properly. So, I've got another tool in troubleshooting Windows

    Regards
