    Default help making max232

    hi

i have made up 3 max232 leads following instructions on here with no luck, i'm sure i have got it right but they just won't work, i've tried using different capacitors, is there anyone who can me any more info(pics of a completed one would be good) or anyone that is prepared to sell me one that is working, i am prepared to pay £30 for one if it works as i have a 4000 box and cant do nothing with it.

    thanks

mate, you probably have got your rs232 working but dont know it, here are a few think to check:

    1) I used 63v 10uF capacitors, as i found the lower voltages didnt work for me (you might want to but the higher voltage caps, if you are not using them already)

    2) Maybe use a desktop instead of a laptop computer, a few people (including me) have found that for some reason a laptop doesnt work with the mod

    3) Check all your connections, make sure no wires are crossing each other (also check all the wring and look to see if any of the wiring cover has burnt through causing to touch another wire) and also make sure the components aer soldered properly

    4) Last but not least, if you are soldering the wiring into the digi box make sure none of the wires are touching

It maybe a good idea to invest in a multimeter that checks continuaty (ie has a buzzer) to find any faults in your circuit
