    Default Blue screen help

    Blue screen Problem
Ive encountered this problem many times over the last few weeks hopefully somebody can help me .

Windows reports it as a 0x0000007F (0x00000008,0x80042000,0x00000000,0x0000000) error and recommends checking memory for faulty or mismatched mememory, vid card, and removing any newly installed software.

    System Details:
    Celeron 1Ghz CPU
    MBoard 1St FA15T
Mem 256 sdram 133 (one module)
Vid card : NVidia 400 mmx
    WinXP Pro

I have bought new memory & it still happens
I have swapped vid cards and it still happens

Generally if i stick to working on 1 programme ata atime this doesnt happen , games play fine with no problems . But if I have more than 2 progs open at a time eg Forte agent, IE6 and PSP and I click a web page link the puter crashes , or if I open win explorer and click a folder again the machine crashes.

    Any ideas?

    Alright Croc,
The most important error here is the (0x00000008) one.
It means one of two things.
    1) You have faulty RAM or CPU or,
    2) There is a dodgy driver kicking around.

First thing I'd do is make sure my vid card driver is up to date and also that the "colours" setting is greater than 256. Then see if there is a BIOS upgrade for the MOBO.

    Cheers,

    Wullie

Also, can you give us a bit more info on the error? Is there any text with it? (UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_ERROR or something)

Also, what internet connection method do you use. I know that the old BT/Alacatel drivers would cause frequent blue-screen crashes under XP, as would some of the older blueyonder network card drivers. Do you visit the windows update site regularly?

    i had a simlar problem.
do you have 2 sticks of memory in your pc
    ie: 2 x 128 meg dimms
i had this and kept getting the blue screen but when i took one of the dimms out it stopped happening i tried it with either dimm in and it was all ok but both together coased the problem again
