    ...... because whilst those who know me know i'm thick as pigshit when it comes to computers, the rest dont

    basicly i wish to be able to use the net without being traceable, that includes web, irc, p2p, ftp etc.

    if you base your replies on the fact i know nothing i may be able to understand it

    i'm on win 98se using an 8mb USB 1.0 dsl modem connected to the dedicated dsl port at home, on the computer i'm running norton internet security (set to block most cookies) & norton antivirus 2002, running ie 6.0.2xxxx with the microsoft "security" updates, mirc, icq, leech ftp, msn & and a "few" p2p apps, i'm not too bothered about msn and icq as i dont log in too often and then only if i have to. i'm not bothered about having some kind of a fuck.off.com ip just something that isnt mine.

    by preference i'd like to make it look like i'm in poland (simply because there is a good rom site there i used to use that is now blocked to people from outsid poland) but the location is not too important.

    oh and i'm using bt interwank as my isp if thats of any use whatsoever.

    it goes without saying that i REALY dont want to have to pay much.

    You cant become totally anonymous.

    You want to download some information, where does it need to send it? Your PC has an IP which is unique, to browse the internet, download stuff, send emails you will need to broadcast your IP.

    Your IP ==== Server

    There are ways of making it hard for people to find your IP by using an anonymous proxy which will 'hide' your IP from sites that it visits, but it will have a record of your IP. Whether or not it actually loses all IP's that proxy through it as it should is another matter.

    Your IP ==== Anon Proxy ==== Server

    You can however chain proxys together like this

    Your IP ==== Anon Proxy 1 ==== Anon Proxy 2 ==== Server

    which is a far more secure way BUT it could drastically screw up your download speeds. I've never found a fast reliable anonymous proxy.

    Basically mate you can take precautions to make sure it's hard to track your IP address, but there ALWAYS has to be a link back to you or you will never get any data

    Check out http://www.multiproxy.org/multiproxy.htm

    Hope this helps
