Tea drinkers are being promised a better-tasting cuppa with the launch of a new type of bag.
Until now tea bags have relied on perforations to allow water through to the leaves.
But experts at tea firm PG Tips have created a new type of bag made from a secret "webbed" material which they claim is at least 50% more permeable than the current paper-based variety.
The new tea bag
The "Freeflow" bag took four years to design and is described by its inventors as a "technical breakthrough for tea."
The new bags will go on sale at the end of the month in the pyramid shape.
The first tea bag was launched in the late 1950s by Tetley which in 1989 replaced square bags with a round design.
The British tea market is estimated to be worth £532m annually with the country getting through 150,000 tonnes of tea a year.
On average, Britons drink three cups of tea a day and more than 90% are brewed from tea bags

Being a tea drinker myself and having suffered kraut almost waterproof tea bags for years I hope this new teabag soon becomes widespread.
Just out of interest how many of you are also TEA drinkers ?
