yes thats what i was wondering........ a feeler(?) gauge aint exactly neat! Is there any other way of removing them (apart fom the heat stations!) that would appeal to us lot?
ooops!
@jamil i had my own 12v unreg psu so it kicks out around 18v
this is enough for the atmel reader
its a pretty easy job to get them out, its putting them back in thats a pain
one thing for sure, never apply too much heat to the chip or your fooked ive noticed
but i found an easier way to re-install them
ill try get our lass to do a bit of recording for us 2nite ill try put it online in mpg format
watch this space
for me to read your chips, email details back to ya and mail back the chips (which you pay for ) ill do for £10
i wont need any ird number as this will be a test so you know if i mail you the ird number then you know i have the details correctly

I find it piss easy to put the atmels back its taking them off without to much heat thats the problem .....If you are doing a 2 chip box i would take 1 out read it & put it back and get the box up and running then do the other chip That way if you get a problem you know which chip it is also if you get any problems with dry joints they tend to show up when the box has warmed up ..Macy
he who dares wins
thanks davey but ive just recived my willem prog this morning what i want to know is what do you save ur file as after reading chip with willem for boxfind software thanks

hi davey have u got ur willem working yet if u have can u please give me the settings for the hardware and software thanks mate cos im having alot of trouble setting the the thing up cheers davey:erm
Can i ask where you guys bought your willems as i would like to order 1 for myself ... cheerzzzzz
jamil- stick the chip in tsop and then plug into the zif.
next supply power pref 16-24v they say.
i personally use an unreg 12v supply.
then once powered up start software up.
the jumpers on the board should be set to how the software states them to be....
1 - click help and test hardware - should get message at bottom stating programmer found.
2 - next click the little ID icon at the top - it should bring up an info box stating type of chip inserted. if not there must be a bad connection somewhere, double check the chip, make sure the dot on the chip is nearest the zif socket. once ok it will tell you your type of chip in the pop-up box.
3 - set the software to the type of chip your reading. as diagram shows.
4 - click on teh read button.
once done click on file > save and to which ever chip your reading save as left or right.
well this is what i do
then your ready for your next chip.
best to take one chip off at a time, read it, save image, then stick back on board n test, this way you can tell its still working ok and not piss about trying both chips if you do them both at once like i used to
once you have the 2 images, use the nifty bit of software thats floating about to get your bk n ird for you. cant remember the name of it.
then ur done.
have phun getting chips back on the board
there is many different ways of doing it.
more guides to follow

thanks davey got got it working cheers for that
ok the best way to get the chips back in is, well i found this way easier and you dont risk damaging hte chips due to heat.
make sure you have plent of de-solder braid.
make sure the pads are cleaned of solder and fluxed up.
line up your chip so as legs are square on with the pads.
then solder all 4 corner legs down, be carefull as to not move the chip
ok once this is done i suggest a bit more flux along the legs.
now solder all legs together, make sure you run the iron and solder gently along all legs so you have a flow of solder across all legs
you may be thinking wierdo but its good
do same on both sides of chip and allow to cool a little as chip will be pretty hot.
now use the solder braid to take all the solder off leaving no shorts, enough solder is left on the legs to form a good joint.
do one chip at a time n test, you know what it does if you've got a short all 88:88 on the display.
so if you get this go over again with braid.
hope this helps ya
