Hi i had the same problem a while back this works 4 me
in mirc click on options/firewall:then try these settings

    firewall support :both
    protcol : proxy
hostname: where proxy is installed (10.50.24.20)eg
    userid: for the proxy server:
    password :for the proxy server
port: that the proxy server uses (5980) eg

Not sure if your using firewall (you should) I have home network with a few old pcs can access mirc from any of them.If your not using a firewall set firewall support to server and leave protcol to proxy.

If the method outlined by gabs doesn't work you could do what I used to do - use some HTTP Tunnel software. It sends all requests through your proxy server to another proxy on the internet. Most work well.

The other option is that if you have broadband at home install windows 2000 server and put Citrix Metaframe on it. Do a search on citrix's website. There is an option you can use that creates Citrix sessions through a proxy server.

Not the easiest two methods in the world but they work. The second one is great as you get access to everything you would at home (And it looks like your normal desktop)
