Default How safe is my computer

I have win xp home edition and Agnitum pro. When I test my pc to see how safe my pc is it keeps coming up with the message that it can't determine my IP address and therefore can't run the test. Does anyone know how to overcome this?

    Many Thanks

if you have a network card, its probably set up for DHCP by default, and if you are not connected to a network (or you are with no DHCP server) then you will get a problem.

Start - Settings - Control Panel - Network Connections

right click on yor network card, select Properties

    Click on TCP/IP, and Properties

Change radio button to read "User the following IP Address"

    IP. 192.168.0.1
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Leave the rest blank.. hope this helps..

Thanks for your reply. Mine is only a normal stand alone PC ie. No network. Therefore should I just follow and set it up as per your instructions and after the test should it just be left like that?

    Thank you again

I presume that by you asking "is my computer safe?", you mean "is my computer safe whilst on the internet?"

if so, what program/site is it that you are using to check your ip address?

a good site to check you 'secure' you computer is on the net is Shileds Up!

Go to This site and click on "Check for Security Risks".... You can check how secure your PC is through that... Don't use the crappy site you were using....

    @neo2180

A very good site indeed. On security scan option my pc failed on Hacker Exposure check and Browser privacy check. I have agnitum pro firewall installed and don't know why it failedthose tests.

It's not enough to just have a firewall installed.. You have to make sure it is configured properly...
Read your way through the manual and ensure it is set up properly...
If you cant get it config.. Use a better firewall (Norton Personal Firewall is what I use, totally secure)

They tell you what you don't want to hear so that you'll buy their products to "fix" the problem...
