Car Urban Myth?

I've heard this story from two people and I don't know if it's true or not.

A guy rings up the police because he is being burgled.

'Hi, ther are some burglars in my garage, can you please come out.
'Sorry sir, we're quite busy, we'll send sum1 out later'
'But they're here now, u can catch them if you come out now'
'Sorry sir, just allow them to carry on and do not approach them'

Conversation ends

10 minutes later the man calls back.

'Hi, I called a few minutes ago about the break in'
'Yes sir?'
'I've just shot them'

10 minutes later police ambulances etc. turn up. They go in and find the burglars unharmed and arrest them. A policeman approaches the man who had phoned them.

'I thought you said you shot them'
to which he replies 'I thought you said you were busy'

Is this an urban myth or has this happened? I could believe that a variant of it has happened.

The only link I can see is the garage ... so maybe they were trying to steal his car/break into it/etc?

Maybe, but that would be bad press for the particular force given what they said the first time he called up. I think it probably is a myth though - it sounds unfeasable - why didn't the robbers leave? I would have thought from the time he first called the police to the time they arrived would have to be at least 30 mins and noone spends (I would imagine) that long robbing a place incase they get caught! Unless the crims were real dumb :!:
