Default xNews Error: 10061 Connection refused

I am a frequent of xNews for connecting to Newsgroups through my Charter Pipeline new server. Last night I was on it, amongst doing other thigns on here, when my sister blew a fuse and the power for everything in my room went out.
Well obviously it's working now, but when I went to xNews this morning to resume browsing, I refreshed headers on two of the 3 newsgroups I wanted. They took their normal time to update and I saw articles I hadn't seen so I know it worked... but when I went to refresh the third, it wouldn't work. I figured I had too many newsgroups open or something (Charter only allows downloading from two at a time) so I closed the whole xNews and reopened. I went to open one of the 3 again and got this error when it tried to connect:
    10061 Connection refused

What does this mean? I couldn't find anything on xNews' website and Google just returned a bunch of message board threads of people not knowing what was happening when they themselves got the same error.

I figure this is a good place for answers. Can anyone help me?

PS - Yes, I have tried OTHER newsgroup clients, same error.

That's a standard winsock error when the remote box has refused the connection..

What do you get when you do

    telnet (news-server) 119

Do you get the server refused the connection again?

If so it's either a problem at their end or possibly a firewall ACL problem at your end...

What do you get if you do the following at a command prompt:

    telnet news.clara.net 119

    .. :: Edit :: ..

Looks like a problem at Supernews - ie:

    telnet news.charter.net 119
Connecting To news.charter.net...Could not open connection to the host, on port 119: Connect failed

    Name: corp.supernews.com
    Address: 216.168.3.44
    Aliases: news.charter.net

In fact i've just taken a look at http://status.supernews.com/

The previously-announced maintenance is underway. Users will be unable to connect to the server
Now you know why it's not working mate
