    Default winrar problem

Ive downloaded a couple of packed archives from easynews.
When I come to unpack them using Winrar files 1-29 are winrar archive files but files 30 onwards are just file r30 etc.
Therefore I am unable to unpack the entire archive.
Could anyone help me on this
Is there something I need to change in Winrar?
Could it be I'm using an evaluation copy and it won't let me unpack more than 30 files?

    Thanks in advance

I'm guessing it may be because of the file names, look closely at the filenames of the rar files d/loaded from easynews because if you use their zipmanager the files are renamed and any periods (.) are taken out and replaced by hyphens (or is it underscores, i can't quite remember).

If that is the case, just rename the file replacing the hyphen/underscore with a period.

Erm dude, this is just WinRAR being WinRAR - it only associates itself with files up to .R29, which is why the rest have a normal unknown icon.. Just open the first file of the RAR set, ie usually the .Rar file - if there's no .Rar file (some groups start at .R00) then just open WinRAR and manually browse to the .R00 file...

WinRAR should then automatically work out the chain and work it's way thru all the files when it comes to extraction time...

Like CJ says, make sure the files below .R29 are named correctly - it's usually easier to get a .PAR file and run this thru SmartPar or FSRAID which will check the file integrity for you... Some guys are even posting .PAR2 files now which do a similar job....

    Thanks for your replies
I've managed to extract the archive now but the file is a .bin file when it should be a .avi file, i'm confused, have I done anything wrong?

    Cheers

Alright mate. A .bin file extension means that it is an image file.

There are two things you can do with this. Either burn it to a cd (Nero's what i use for this) or you can get your hands on a prog called cdmage, and then you can extract the file onto your hard drive
