    Default bitTorrent security at work?

does anyone know anything about what information would be stored on a work server when im downloading files via bitTorrent, ie would my network administrator be able to see what was inside the file/s i downloaded, without knowing which torrent file was used to grab all the data? my understanding is youre sent all the data in small unsequential packets. so if i were to say downlaod half the file, then stop, start another torrent, get half, stop then resume my original download how would they know how to stick the files together. would they just see it as data and ignore. any help apreciated. if any of that makes sence

It's not worth it m8, companies look for this kinda activity on their networks. If you are with a even a small company with half decent sys admins you wil get caught.

They won't know what the bugger you downloaded, but they will know you did download something, that alone would be enough to get me a severe bollocking!

cheers Nookie_Bear, if they wont know "what" i downloaded its fine, i use the direct connect hub and bitTorennt a lot, most people in the office use kazza, the boss doesnt mind about most files but some files are less respected than others.

so as long as they cant see what i downloaded im fine

its possible, yes. I can't speak for your NW Admins, are they tat clever, are they that bothered? But odds on, you'll get a severe reprimand for even having Bit Torrent on your machine.

well were a small company and our IT is handeled by another company, they come in once a week and when needed. the ceo checks the internet logs, though i have no idea how often, he is technicaly inclined but not a network admin, im sure if he spotted something that bothered him (content wise) hed get the IT boys to have a look.

but he does know i used "tools" to get him copies of some certain blookbusters before xmas for his kids, and for some reason people always come to me when they cant find the serial number for an install disk

As a network admin I can tell what file is being downloaded by someone from a bittorrent download.

But I'm not gonna say how otherwise my securty will be bummed and theres one user who I'm dieing to ban who is using bittorent.

Just gotta wait for a porno downlaod and thats him finnished :-)

In short - any half decent system admin can tell what you download from whatever software you use. Simply dont download from work is the only safe solution.

Hmm so if I were to connect to a 128bit encrypted ftp server you would be able to see what I am downloading I think not.

Also all that has to be done is encrypt the packets or just not name the file as to what it contains.

Also I recommend www.s-mail.com if you want a totally secure e-mail that’s encrypted with 128bits.

Rar files when protected with passwords use 128 bit encryption and when combined with a strong long password are almost uncrackable.

When are those privacy laws gona get pushed though on e-mail etc.

Fight back against this invasion of privacy encrypt it.
