newby for satelite tv

Another newby, Im interested in all new technology but am not at all "techy" my latest interest is satelite tv (recently bought an echostar 2200 via reciever) and am at present trying to sort through the differences between Fun, silver and all the cards that are available and what sort of applications and experiments these and others can be used. So any help or advice would be welcome..Thanks
