XBox & CD-R Games?

NEWBIE ALERT!

Hi,
Just got my hands on a Xbox. Next on my list is a Mod Chip (recommendations please for a total lamer like myself?). Sadly, I ain't got a DVD writer!

My question...

Is it possible to get on fairly well (game wise) with just an CD-R? Roughly what percentage of games require to be cut by DVD-R?

Unless you have a samsung drive I'd say you have very little chance of your box actually reading cd-r. You can test it easily, copy an audio cd to a cdr and try it. If it works hurrah, if not try a cdrw and see how you get on with that. I don't know of many of the modern games that will work on cdr (Aliens vs Predator does fit on cdr).
As for the extra 'thing' you want to fit, it depends on what model of box you have. If it's a new 1.3 one you'll need a new 'thing' for it. If it's an older 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2, a cheap'thing' will do the job fine for you. Have a check of xbox-scene and you'll get the info you need (plus this forum too has loads of info). Good luck

First of all you need to identify which dvd drive your box has as only Samsung can definately read cdr media, some philips can but Thompsons only read DVD. If you look in the tut/howto sticky there are pictures to identify them.

If you install a bigger HD to your xbox ie 80Gb instead of the standard 10Gb then you can extract isos to your hd from the bigger DVD releases . That way you can do without the DVD burner.
