Default T610 - Anyone got one? Views?

its that time of year again. time to upgrade.

ive had my t68i for just under a year now (i think) and i love it, but its time to move on. from the current models about in my price range i really liked the look of the Sony Ericsson T610 and was thinking about purchasing one as ive never really liked nokias i dont like their menus and i think they feel like tacky shite, so i thot id stick to the SE stable of fones as i loved my other 2 so much (t28/t68i). but first i thot id ask here to see if anyone has one (and what they think of it) or if anyone knows of any reason why i should or should not buy this.

    for reference its this one:

    <iframe src="http://www.sonyericsson.com/t610/index.htm?overview/index.htm" width="700px" height="700px" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>

    anyone have any opinions?

    cheers

I have a T610 and 2 T68is. The phone is similar to the t68i but with extra features like built in cam poly ringtones and Java games. Going through the menus are quicker than the T68i. Size is the same. I think the T610 is currently the smallest phone with built in camera.
The drawbacks with the T610 is that it scratches easily and currently the Bluetooth feature doesnt work aswell as the T68i (sound quality crackles when using Ericcson headsets). This will be resolved in the future with firmware upgrades. Also you cannot see the screen very well in sunlight.
I am very happy with mine and am sure you will be if you get one

Have to agree , nice phone but needs constant cleaning with the polishing cloth provided with it.
1.Can't see anything in direct sunlight.
2.Crackles like hell with my bluetooth headset.
3.Also look out for early versions that had a terrible hissing during a call.
4.bit of a lag on the camera

The latest firmware sorts out a few problems which is R1L013
Also if you go ahead and buy one make sure that on the box it states R3A and not R2A.
Check on the phone under where the battery goes and you will see a production week such as 03w24.
If this number is below 23 i wouldn't touch it mate.
so if it states 03w21 then it will probably hisssss like a python.

I ordered myself one of these from orange this morning... after my nokia 8310 had decided to kill die on me & nokia refused to touch it without a recept to prove it was within warranty!

From what i have seen from the demonstration its a pretty good phone, the ring tones are amazing - better than the nokia polly by far!! As for the camera (it wasnt really the selling feature for me) its pretty crap res, but what do you expect, its a phone... but it does have the nice feature of a picture phone book.

I'll give you a little more info when i get my phone, but orange said i'd have to wait around 5 days to get it

I have one of these phones and I find that the volume is quite low. The picture quality is good on the camera though. The joystick shortcuts are a pain as im constantly hitting mine and trying to connect to WAP.

If your going to get one then go to the LINK and get one one the ORANGE DATA PLAN which is only £10 per month and get it unlocked.

The hissing in-call is a hardware fault, fixed by a modification, olr already fixed in later models. Unfortunately SE do not have a very plentiful supply of the components required for the mod, so buy a late model if you can.

Also there has recently (9/9/03) been a recall on UK chargers made in thailand.
I can't remember if the T610 is supplied with one, but I suspect it is.

The details have been posted by Biggy7 elswhere in this forum.

Just got one today from Carphonewarehouse.

The phone was free and I am on Anytime 100 min Xnet plan. It's £22 a month and the first 3 months are half price. So it's £11/mth for first 3 months and back to £22 for the remaining 9 months. Much better than what I was on (Orange OVP zero minute @ £14 a month). So can't complain.

By the way, the model number is R3A as thewizz suggested and the production number is 03w31. The charger, however, is made in Thailand.....not sure whether it's the old ones or they made some new ones in Thailand.

It's always nice to have new gadget....hehe

I have been shopping around too. sonyericssonserver.com do them for 15 euro. irwebonline.com does another one for 8 quid.

To be honest, I am not quite sure how it works. Still in the process of getting a cable. I went to a local com fair, and they are asking for 25 quid. They must be having a laugh! They probably cost 5 quid max in Hong Kong! I may ask my friend to bring some over and sell them at a much more reasonable price! Hate rip off merchants!

Am I right to say that to unlock the phone, you have to buy the unlock log (for a tenner) and another tenner or so to flash the phone (to remove brand menu and stuff)?

    Gez...
