Athlon XP 1700/M810LR Overclock

Here is my system

PC Chips M810LR
AMD Athlon XP 1700+

I have read that this cpu can be overclocked to above 2ghz. What can I realistaclly overclock this to? Is it just a matter of connecting the L1 bridges and adjusting the speed in the bios or have I got the wrong end of the stick

Or is it time for an upgrade?

Depends what sort of 1700 you have. The Thoroughbred B models overclock particularly well. You should have some codes on the CPU itself, these will tell you what stepping the chip is, and a rough idea of how far it will go.

I'd get a new motherboard though if you're interested in overclocking at all

I have a XP 1700+ Running @ 2.0GHz (XP 2400+ speeds)

You'll need a good motherboard (ABit NF7-S v2.0) and PC3200 RAM.

Set the FSB to 200 and Multiplier to 10 and walah, you got 2000MHz

Edit: the chip is a thoroughbred B "JIUHB"

thinking of buying the Abit NF7-M (built in VGA) is this worth it compared to the Abit NF7 considering I have no vga card and that would cost me extra
