Much Help Needed!!!

ok heres the deal.... two days ago i decided to tackle the project of moddin my xbox. so... needless to say im a noob to the world of modded xboxs. ive never done anything like this and im no computer wiz by any means. but with some guidance from you more experienced folk im pretty sure i can do this without too many problems. i purchased a maxtor 120 gig 7200 rpm hdd, the xecuter 2.2 pro, and a side mounted cooling fan. so with that done ive now been searching and trying to find out what programs i will need and where i can aquire them. basically i need someone to help me out from the beginning. i can handle gettin the xbox apart but after that its somewhat foggy. so if anyone can give me a walk through in laymans terms of EVERYTHING that needs to be done, how to do it, what ill need, and where i can get it, i would be forever greatfull.

i appreciate any help that can be offered

I'm a newB 2 and am sure there's guys here who can help, all I can do is recommend xbox-scene.com they seem to have a load of tutorials that look 'fairly' straight forward.

You WILL need a copy of the slayers disc, this will allow you to install the new drive then boot to this cd, it then does the lot for you including installing all the apps you need, not sure i could post a url as its illegal software as such and I think thats frowned upon in here

ok..... well i have it all finished now and except for one thing. when i turn off my mod chip i get the Your Xbox Requires Service message. ive been told that this has something to do with the install of the new hdd. anyone out there able to tell me how to remedy this. i dont use live now..... but id like to be able to in the future. thanks for all the help offered.

Yes this is because you have not locked your new 120Gb Hd. When the original Xbox BIOS querys the Hd it gets a invalid responce due to it being un-locked hence the frag.

Bung the Slayers 2.1 Disc into the Xbox and restart, then choose Config magic in the BIOS option, then lock the drive.

Keep your fingers crossed as not all Maxtors lock

You should have got an IBM 180GXP as not only are they faster and cheaper they all seem to be lockable. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you mate.
