    Default File transfer between PCs

I will soon have two PC's at home. I'm not worried about networking them but occasionally may want to transfer files between the two. Both have network cards installed.

What is the easiest/cheapest(free?) way of doing this - what software do I need?

    Thanks for any help.

    Connect the 2 PC's with a Cat5 crossover cable.
    Job done.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

Would I not need some software to then transfer the files?

pretty much all modern operating systems can do this for you.

    Windows
    windows specifically uses sharing:
after you have set up the network, right click on a folder that you want to share to other computers, or in your case computer. press sharing, and use the common-sense dialog to set it up.

then on the other computer, depending on the version of windows, load either "My Network Places" or "Network Neigbourhood" .

    Network Neigbourhood
If it is network neigbourhood then double click on the computer that the file is on, then double clikc on the folder, then you can just choose edit>copy and then edit>paste in another location.

    My Network Places
If howere it is My Netowork Places, and the folder that you shared inst already there, double click upon "add network place" and follow the supid micro$hit wizard that comes up. Then you can load the folder and copy and paste your file into a folder on the local computer.

this should work fine. If you cant see the other computer in either my network places or network neigbourhood then you will need to post agian describing syntoms of that (it means that the network is broken). IF you dont use windows then post again with the name of your os and i will try to give you instructions for that (other than linux+windows i know bugger all so if you use macos then you will need help from someone else)

Just use the home network wizard m8 to set it up for you if you are using WIN XP it iwll ask you to make a setup disk for your other pc so all you have to do is run it on the other one and your sorted
