    How Do install Norton NIS & av2004
    My o.s is XP
    hi i have norton internet security 2003 installed with the virus scanner uninstalled via the options
    then when i try to install Norton Anti virus 2004 it says
    we have detected a version of norton internet security and it needs to be removed in order to install this product

    is there any way around this as i use norton internet security 2003 for my firewall

    you will need to uninstall nis then reboot
    then install nav 2k4 and run the live update as much as required to bring it upto date (rebooting each time)
    then install nis 2k3 with norton av unchecked and follow the live update / reboot procedure as described above untill it says there is nothing new to update.

    it should take about 7-12 reboots in total then it should all work properly, however if when you uninstall yo get an error message or two when you reboot it would pay you to run a program called registry healer before reinstalling (registry healer is free use google to search).

    there is also a prog i found called norton remover, i once installed norton utilities, but when i tried to uninstall it there were masses of files that it wouldnt uninstall, this gets rid of every last one of em.

    as freaky said there are tools from symantec if uninstall fails do a search on symantecs website for rnav.exe and rnis.exe they will uninstall versions of nav and nis from 2001 to 2003 inclusive both standard and pro versions
