    Default Going to Mexico

Next week I goto Mexico for two weeks. I can't wait.

The thing is, I don't know what to take with me moneywise.

I have a 'Maestro' card on my debit card and should therefore be able to draw money from ATM's. However, I don't know what money or how much money I should be taking with me.

Therefore I am hoping you people will be able to help me.

I am going for two weeks on a flight only ticket and I'll be travelling around the place. This means paying my way for everything (travel, hotels, food, etc..).

So, what do you think I should be taking? Should I take Dollars or Pesos?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Plus, has anyone here been to Mexico before? I am flying into Cancun and then I am going to work West to Merdia and then back to the west and down the coast to Tulum and then into Belieze.

    Cheers, salvadorEscobar.

    Hi mate.
I cant help you much really, as the only time I have been to Mexico I went all inclusive in a 5 star hotel, where basically I spent fook all most days.
I would recommend that you take US dollars, and that you barter for prices of things when you are out of the main touristy bits.
Drinks and food in the main tourist areas are a bit cheaper than they are over here, but not much cheaper.
Cancun is ace. Go on the boat trip at cancun bay, its called Capitan Hook, its on a night, it costs about $25 and you get a fooking right feed and unlimited free booze, cocktails and the lot, I got well hammered and the entertainment is mint!

Thanks for the links there Czar. I have already looked at some of them but you can never read too much.

jimbob - I'll take Dollars I think. I have been told by some American to stay away from Cancun as it is like Benidorm. However, I don't like to follow other people judgements wholly.

Can't wait to go now. Just hope I don't get mugged!!

Obviously with me staying in an All-inclusive hotel I didnt go out round the cancun bars often, as our hotel was fooking massive and all food & drink free, but Cancun is far from Benidorm, and full of american woman who go weak at the knees for a British accent! Take advantage of that.
There are plenty of good trips to go on, we went on about 4 or 5, Chi-tzin-itza (or however its spelt) is a intresting trip, you travel through Mayan villages (mayans are descendants from the original inhabitants of Mexico) and its intresting to see how they live, the main attraction is all the ancient ruins and pyramids that are there.
There is a good trip where you go speed boating, that was cool, and there are places you can go swimming with dolphins too.
I'm sure you will have a great time.

everyone is saying take us $ but for gods sake DONT take us$ travellers cheques instead that way if they get nicked you can get them replaced quickly. As with any third world type country its best to err on the safe side since street robbery is a way of life in some of the bigger cities.

Cheers ABCMan. To save my confusion, there should be a full stop after DONT, right? Not been funny, just want to be sure.

Take US$ travellers cheques instead of cash, right?

    Thanks for the advise.

Robbo, I'm kinda hoping the windy season will be ending when I get there. Things don't look too good on the 10 day forcast though.

I already have Tulum circled on the map. If the weathers good I'll spend a few days there.

    Thanks for the advise.
