Yes, the TIVO will work fine, it only needs the scart from the cable box - or aerial if pushed, but I think you will lose the stereo sound except on the 5 terrestrial channels - and the IR from the TIVO will change the channels from the TIVO's remote or timer.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I haven't got a tivo but was thinking of getting one.
Dont waste any more time thinking about it, - GET ONE !!
It will change the way you watch TV forever, no more hunting for tapes, looking for a TV guide, remembering to set the video every week when you are watching a series, wondering which tape something is on etc.

Will the tivo work without a sub then? gaining the epg info from the cable? or hav i got it all screwed?
tivo uses its own EPG - basically you either subscribe monthly or pay for a lifetime subscription (some second hand boxes can come with lifetime subscriptions already on them) and then every night tivo makes a quick free phone call to get the latest EPG infoOriginally Posted by DAVE ANGEL
so, you then use the tivo remote, and EPG to change channels & pick what to record

Thanks for the reply. I read somewhere that if you connect a tivo to a 4000 series box via a usb lead the tivo can control the cable box. Has anyone managed this?

I've got a tivo with telewest digital. Unfortunately needed to get a cable adapter for £30, but it's worth it.
Seriously, TiVo is WELL worth the money.
where can i purchase a Tivo from, and is there support for Tivo
only only ebay im afraid, the program info apparently has indefinate support from the manufacturer
And if it goes wrong, or needs expanding etc, you could try Kesh Electrics , one of many places catering for TIVO, or there's plenty of help, inc DIY, on the TIVO Forum

Just to add that the tivo can't control a 4000 thru the usb port.
It also depends on what software is on the 4000 which decides whether you need a dongle.
With CR2 it was fine, the day CR3 arrived i could no longer control it so bought the dongle for £30 from tivo.
Highly recommended. :thumbs :thumbs
