Not sure how advance you need.

Why not design a network for a made up company. I am doing a CCNA and at the end of the course you have to design a network for a group oh schools. This has to include LANs WANs, topology, hardware, router config, protocols, VLans etc. It all has to be presented as though we were professionally presented to a company.

Could try doing the differences with encryption and wireless networks and how the encryption affects speed of xfer etc

Loads of stats you could do for that and testing and theoires etc

jsut the sort of shit academics like to see!

thanks m8, ive done CCNA, unfortunately the final practical design wont be enuff for the project spec. Thanks for the idea though.

This sounds interesting dude, would be more of a written approach for the final product with the comparisons etc...

Maybe think about a security audit project and the placement of wireless AP's in a large building

think of the legal issues with regards to this type of audit work and how you would carry it out.

    kit needed

5 AP's in one building over three floors

The placement of AP's and how they should be placed with regards to security - eg Firewalls, VPN etc within the network.

    The placement of an IDS

    MAC filtering of users

    Encription

    etc etc etc

er im not sure i understand what you actually need to do.. BUT why not make a project for providing wireless networks for small housing estates or blocks of high rise flats. i.e bringing them broadband and maybe incorporating a security system into it
