comp not seeing dvd burner or cd burner
switched on machine this morning and both my cd and dvd burners are not there
they was yesterday!, had trouble with comp the last week, but thought it was working ok now,i have disconnected both drives reconnected, and switched machine back on, thinking windows would pick them up but no joy,
any help please?

Try connecting them one by one. If you're using an 80-pin cable make sure the blue and is plugged into your mobo and that the device in the middle is the slave and the one on the other end is the master. Check your bios to make sure that the drives are being detected properly too.
if you have recently installed a virtual drive clone alchol etc uninstall them then uninstall in cp the ide controller that your drives are on then reboot and should come back

ok here goes everything is in place ok! checked that, and also i have not installed any virtual drives, what i have done though is updated my copy of XP pro, with new critical updates etc, drives were seen by comp yesterday, but not now
any other advise please
