Default does the ipod skip or lock up

Does the ipod skip or lock up when you use them when jogging. Ive brought a archos 20gb andd they said it doesnt because it has a 2mb buffer but it does after 1 song :grr: The ipod is really expensive i know but im getting pissed off with the archos as thats what i need it for to use when running.

    Any advice please

i've got an ipod and mine doesnt lock up, its supposedly got a 20 minute jog thing (i think its 20 mins, maybe more) but i dont jog with it for lengthly periods of time. More like short runs but they've lasted about 15 mins without it locking up. And thats one of the older models when 20gig's was the largest they did

My iPod doesn't lock up either, never has, one of the 30GB versions.. They release new firmware versions every so often so if there was a problem in the software they'd fix it.

Not so sure about jogging as I'm a fat **** but it doesn't skip when it's bouncing about as I'm eating my pies

Got to admit I really like the little thing!

A few friends have iRivers or whatever they're called and they look nice but they're just way too small for me, the iPod is pushing things for me to be fair as that's tiny.

just for your info.. I take my archos to the gym every other day and it never skips a beat on the treadmill. I have heard mixed reviews about the *PANIC* mode. Only experienced it a couple of time on mine. You can upgrade the RAM in it if you're good with a soldering iron. Or take it back for an exchange, might be a faulty unit.

Also to say the ipod NEVER skips would be incorrect. Its a HDD same as the archos so there will be instances where the platters will jump around. Granted the ipod prolly handles the anti jog a bit better, but then that why you pay £150+ more for it

wizer do you strap it to you when your running as i found the archos too heavy to run with it on me. i clip it to the tread mill frame work when i use it. This i know causes it to temporary lock up because if i run with it on my person its ok.

I paid about £280 including delivery for my 40gb one from a US based seller on ebay.

My girlfrlend paid just over £200 for her 20gb one from the same seller.

yeah they are good prices especially compared to the UK price (40gb - £399, 20gb - £299).

Battery life, you're looking about 8 hours or so when it's fully charged.

Yeah I need to format it but it's dead easy mate. Am using the PC version of itunes with it now but had no probs using the supplied musicmatch software either.

Have read that the EURO ipods have a built in limiter on the volume whereas the US spec ones don't. Don't know anyone with a EURO ipod so can't confirm this.

Totally agree with oE, my ipod is definitely one of my best buys.

hmm well I'v never noticed it on my m8ts Ipod - mines a US one.

That said all you have to do is download and install the US firmware on it and it will be the same ?

I assume thats what the sound check option on the ipod is for ?

Does the new ipod play mp3 pro... and is there any advantage in compressing mp3's any further as im told it does reduce the quality of the sound?

lol.... I would have thought the answer to that was obvious... If you compress it more, you can store more. There will be a reduction is sound quality but that is dictated by the amount of compression. Go for 128 or above... I tend to float around the 160 mark for my tracks but I don’t think I could hear the difference between them.... just makes me feel better and the chances are they will be the track you want... some tracks you get from the net... well they say one title... but the song is totally different... *******s.

normally keep mine mp3's around the 128/160 myself, can't really tell the difference to be honest.

@Dopey Dan - yeah you can use the ipod as a portable HD and store other stuff on it too.
