Corsa engine warning light question???

The engine warning light on my girlfriends Corsa (w reg 24,000 miles) lights up sometimes usually when she is slowing down, then the engine runs erratically.
i have been told it could be a sensor near the fly wheel that needs a jet wash to clear the dirt off it, or it could be dirt in the oil or a faulty spark plug.
Anyone any ideas on the Cause/Cost to repair dont want ripping off if i can help it so any help would be great.

I dont think dirt in the oil or bad plugs will turn on the light, you need to get the codes out, even if the light is not on the codes will still be stored in the controller as trouble codes not present.

What engine is it?

its a 1.2 m8 on a W plate

if it's a 16 valve
it sounds like it's the idle valve,there a comon problem
