azureus used to be 2k a few versions ago then went up to 5..

but it dont seem to make much of a difference.. downloading one torrent at a steady 54-59k with only 4k upload..

    i love bit torrents lol

Burst is the best BT client in my opinion, you can limit your upload to 10kbs so that it don't cane your bandwidth.

Reguarly get 150-200kbs downloads when theirs a few leechers.

Is that on your Site Leftfield??

Do any of you run more than one D/load at a time??

I've also found that running it alongside DC++ it limits my uploads nicely and my downloads fly - get the best of both worlds!!

    Download burst from: >>.HERE.<<

I normally run 2 BT downloads @ once as anymore means your gonna be uploading faster than 20kbs which canes your bandwidth and effects download speed & web browsing.

I don't agree in limiting your upload speed anymore than that!! The whole reason we get such good speed on BT is people HAVE to share when downloading and no one can leech! If everyone heavly capped their uploads then BT would not be half as good as it is!

    thats pure shite m8.

u dont have to set yer upload to 30k just to be a good samaritan, it has the same effect if you set your upload to 5k and then seed for longer.

eg, my global upload no matter how many torrents im running is 5k. but i leave my torrents running once they are finished until the upload/download ratio = 1:1
this means im still sharing what im getting, and not getting my bandwidth raped, plus you can watch or run whatever it is you downloaded while still seeding so it makes no difference whatsoever. oh.. and it keeps the torrents alive longer.

Burst! is ok, used to use it but it had too many problems.. and still wasnt compatible with multiple torrents. so i stopped using it when i started using azureus.

Not really!? If users only upload @ 5Kbs then that means people have to connect to a lot more users to get a decent download rate, this OBVIOUSLY canes the users network!

I'm not saying upload @ 30k, but anything less than 10k makes BT crap in my opinion! I would need to connect to 40 odd users to get a decent speed where as if people capped it @ 10k then I would only need to connect to 20 odd!!

why would it cane the users network??? this is what bit torrent was designed to do.. spread the load over many users.. not over a few users.

and what difference does it make how many users u have to connect to? the software deals with all that and connects to ppl in the order of what peices they make available.. not how much bandwidth they are giving.

If the user keeps the torrent open longer but uses less bandwidth I wouldn't have thought it would make a blind bit of difference, as the users download rate is based on their upload rate, so in theory the user will have to stay on longer and upload just as much.

Oh feck i've gone cross eyed!

As well as this, if your on cable, your upload rate is 16k, 10k of that is quite a big chunk!

Something i've found though with Azureus or Burst, if I limit the number of users who can connect to me, I get a little better speed.

At the end of the day, I get it when I get it, like now, downloading Peter Kay Live at Bolton Town Hall (Gwan you Whites) it's 768.3 MB and it's took 8.5 hours to get to 95% and i'm on a 2 MB connection!

on th subject of torrents guys,
i've just d/loaded the sims 7in1. Everthing was fine. the folder contains the 7in1 executable (which installed fine), I then selected each of the registration entries (EN,SC & TC) and then ran the game. It started loading OK but it then keeps stopping and reverting to windows.
The folder also contains two files called THeSims7in1.WO2 and .W03. ARe these of any consequence?
    cheers

Personally i find the best client to be shadows version of the experimantal.

Its the same, but with a few more options.

Is Azerius not the java client thats renowned for being shite throughout the torrent community?

I think I'll be sticking with ABC, at least for the timebeing. I've seen nothing to make me think Azerius would be better (I get, provided there are enough seeds, steady 57 down, and that's fine by me). I'm on cable, and cap the universal at 10, 10, 9, and 12 for 1-4 torrents. In fact, given the Java power hogging worries that have been discussed I think it would be a step down.

ABC doesn't seem to take any processor resources to speak of, offers loads of stats on up and down and who's connected, allows capping at 3 (so I can have 3 D/Ls going), supports queueing of as many torrents as you like, allows single click opening of torrents, and supports priority settings. A nice, easy piece of S/W.

What are the actual benefits of any of the competitor clients?

Not having a pop Marcode, but you didn't actually name one benefit other than d/l speed (which I don't see is true given my own speeds). I'm open to persuasion certainly, but need a reason to ditch what is for me 100% effective....

azureus is one of the clients that most of the ppl who release torrents and most of the bigger torrent channels recommend. as for the java power hungry thing.. java seems to have a name for itself as unefficient and slow, but the newest java sdk and new releases of the software have reduced this so that the difference is negligable. i never noticed any lag on my pc anyway.. but if you are on anything less than 1ghz then i wouldnt bother with it stick with the shitey clients. lol j/k

as for benefits of the software.. it does everything that abc does and is longer into its development by a long way and as such has fewer bugs but after using abc i just didnt think it was as good.. along with that.. i know its not huge on the priority list but i think az is a whole lot nicer to look at.

again as i have said all the way on this thread its all personal preference.. i just said az was my fav.. im not really bothered which client u use m8.. was just tryin to get some discussion going.. sorry

I'm open to persuasion certainly, but need a reason to ditch what is for me 100% effective....
no one said u did m8, was just making a suggestion.. if u find abc 100% effective then use it.. im not bothered either way.. the suggestion of az was merely incase u didnt find urs 100% effective. hell, i wish i had somone to tell me there was more than a couple of clients out there back when i was using experimental.

    its all personal preference.

Find the link to the torrent you are downloading click it and it should resume automatically.

btw torrents are evil, i always seem to download at 15k and upload at 30k, newsgroups are the only way to go!
