    Default Wireless G Setup.FTP Speeds??

Ive just got a Linksys wireless g router and acces point. And a 3com 11g pc card.

Ive got a laptop with the pc card in,the router has got a cable going to my xbox.

When i transfer stuff im only getting around 1,500k.

When i transfer stuff from my pc to my xbox(pc patch cable in router and patch cable out of router to xbox) i get around 10,000k

Is this normal? are there any settings for the pc card that could help the speed.

    Im running XP on both.

Yea thats sounds about right.... Wirelss cards have a top speed of 11mb so your going from 11mb card to 100mb card......where as the transfer between your PC and Xbox is 100mb to 100mb

While 802.11a/b cards operate at 11mb, 802.11g cards operate at 54mps.
If both the router and wireless card are operating in g mode then I'd expect that to be a little bit quicker. From the speeds, it does sound like they're running in b mode...

    Thanx for the replys.

Ive checked the router and card settings and from what i can see it is set to G-Mode Only.the xbox says it is getting a full duplex signal wich is good.

my signal strength is fine. But just the speeds are not.

I thought it was slow, it makes buying G a waste of time really(although i am happy with it).

The spec of the laptop wouldnt make a difference would it??
    700mhz CPU,128mb Ram,15 gig HDD.Cant see how this would make a difference.

On my main Tower PC once when i set the NIC to 100/full duplex it went really slow for some reason,Leaving it on auto-Negotiate put it back to 10.000k but cant see a setting like this in the 3com pc card?

Any more ideas. ill keep fiddling with settings.

well I have also heard that linksys products work better together than with other products

I have not tried going from my laptop to xbox, but I also have the wireless G linksys card and router so I will try it when I get a chance

Thanx doctor x. its been annoying me, just feal like it was pointless getting G over B.like i said everything is fine BUT transfering files to xbox and also from my laptop to pc takes longer than i thought it would with the G products.
