    Default 5861 router keeps rebooting!!

Ok i have a bt badged 5861 router that keeps rebooting, and after about 5 mins of been on the damn thing just reboots, ive noticed that the 6th light along flashes very fast while the router is loading...which is known as the lanr light,

and im stuck for ideas what the problem might be?

first guess im thinking the power pack even though it looks fine???

    regards

    The PSU is f*cked.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

i was thinking that also, but it seems to only reboot when it goes over speeds of 1.5mb a second, i got a 2mb line with bulldog, its only when i reach top speeds it reboots, could it still be the PSU?

The original PSU that shipped in the 5861 routers was inherently weak and can produce all manner of weird & wonderful faults.
Just two weeks ago I had a 5861 that refused to transfer any data at all from the WAN side, although it made a satisfactory connection and you could issue commands to it from the LAN side.

Take it from me, the PSU is f*cked.

ok purchased a power pack which should be with me tomorrow, but also contacted bulldog about the problem and they sent me the following e-mail.......

We are currently investigating the fault on your line. We have found a large volume of noise intefearance. We have logged the fault with BT. We shall update you once we have been updated.

    Regards,
    Bulldog Support

    Here's the deal:

BT are obliged (by law) to provide an analogue line that supports voice calls and data transmission up to (& including) speeds of 28.8kbps ONLY.

Anything over & above and BT are NOT obliged to do anything about it whatsoever.

If it is found that your line has excessive loss for 2Mbit ADSL then the odds are that BT will simply downgrade you (say goodbye to 2Mbit and hello to 512k again)

Don't mean to pi$$ on your camp fire, but that is about the "be all & the end all" of it.

BT have been out to my premises this morning and tested my line and there is too much noise for a 2mb service. even though it is installed. where does this leave me with bulldog?

If there is too much noise for a 2Mbit link then it looks like you are going back on to a 512k service.
