    Default still losing disk space

    Hi all

I am still losing disk space…..and due to some members on this board I was able to trace where the space is going to

It seems that it’s all going to a system32 file in the windows folder i.e. C/WINDOWS/SYSTEM 32

I checked on the properties on the system32 folder 2 days ago and it was around 14.5 gig and today I have lost another 3 gig to this folder and is now 17.5 gig.

When I again click on properties it says it’s a HTML.

Help at this rate I will lose all my disk space by next week as I only have about 20 gig left.

    Kind regards

    will

opps forgot to say that the name of the folder in the system32 folder is called "IDSPEED "

this is a bit risky, but you could try copying that folder else where, such as your My Documents, and then deleting it. reboot, and if the pc continues working problem solved, if it doesnt boot then your ****ed (you might need a reinstall anyway) and if it boots but doesnt work then you can just copy the file back.

dont blame me if everyting goes tits up

ps. before you try that, ctrl+alt+del it. look at everything running. has anything god ID or SPEED or IDSPEED in the name? if so end task it and remove it with msconfig

update: i assume http://24.45.76.65:1138/index.html hasnt got anything to do with it?

    Hi again

The folder IDSPEED got as large as 18.5 GIG …so I did what you suggested by copping it over and I tried out the computer and it seems to work just fine without it.

So I have now deleted the said folder, the only thing is ( this is strange ) that the IDSPEED folder was over 18 gig so you naturally assume that I would obtain the extra disk space on my hard drive, but on its just not there

I have looked on the computer but I am unable to locate the missing space??

this is gonna sound stupid but did you empty the recycle bin?

if not use a start>search thing and search for files bigger than 1 gig. if you find any that are huge then that might be the prob.

i cba scrolling up to see if you mentioned your windows version, but if it is winxp or win2k then look for pagefile.sys in you c:\ folder. if it is more than 1 gig then you need to adjust virtual memory settings, since windows uses this file as extra ram when you run out

one thing it could be is an error on the drive, do a chkdsk or checkdisk or scandisk or whatever windows names it these days and see if it fixes an error.
