Why would the admins want to do that to a forum that has been running fine the way it has for the past 3 or 4 years?

with your 7 posts you're obviously contributing to the problem

nah the current system seems to be working :thumbs

if they delete old posts then it would just cause problems, and the information would be lost that people like searching through and repeated qestions would be even more common than they are now.

nice idea, but shit all the same

i think theres room to merge the slower moving sections into more general sections but we try to cover everything here at df so we still wanna keep all the topics we have.. just the sections need to be fixed.. hopefully we can do something about it once the new vb software goes gold and we get our own skin and give the place a bit of a tidy up.

world news tends to go into the dog and duck along with general board chatter, over the last 4 years we've deleted around 180,000 low posting members (ie ones who sign up, make a few posts then disapear never to be seen again) we've also deleted hundereds of thousands of older posts, some to speed up the database and some for legal reasons which resulted in the total removal of some sections.

we act on our members suggestions if enough of them want a new section we try to accomodate it although often the subject can best be covered in an already existing section, as marcode says we also keep an eye on less used sections and where it makes sense we'll merge them.

Since we have members from around the world we do have to try our best to cover things that would be of interest to our members from other continents and cultures, sadly we also have to limit (or ban) discussion on certain subjects, some for legal reasons, some just because precedent has taught us that some subjects get a little overheated.

generaly we do not allow flaming except in the football section where its part of the banter and of course the hall of shame (hos) but we do ask members to keep it farily light hearted (except in the case of c*nts like mymaxis who frequently signs up to try to spam our board with his attempts to sell his low quality pirate software) although a lot depends on the reaction of the poster when he gets some negative comments.

There are some long standing members who can and do get away with being slightly ruder to members but all our regular members know who these people are and to be honest some of the pride themselvs on it, generaly those members tend to get as good as they give but again try not to get personal.

obviously we do ask members, especialy new ones, to read the forum rules which are usualy posted in the stickys at the top of each section this is mainly because different sections have different rules, obviously general rules are that we frown on racism, dont like personal insults, dont like people trying to spam other sites or commercial sites.

our last pruning took place in september with the removal of all posts prior to the middle of 2002 and the removal of some 40,000 members (down to 20,000) in the last 3 months that figure has added 5,000+ new members so we must be doing something right.

as also stated by marcode above we are currently going through the beta versions of the vb software and because of the frequent alterations we are using the default "skin" once the gold or final version of vb3 is released someone will re design our old "skin" to fit the new board and we can then set about installing some of the new hacks as they become available and those with server access have the time.

occasionaly the board is closed for a while (sometimes upto 10 days) this is usualy for major maintainence so if we suddenly dissapear you dont need to worry necause it just means that we are doing something to improve the board (or we are running major back ups or restores) this only happens a couple of times a year.

We also have a regular get together in late sept / early october in blackpool, england to which we welcome many of our members for a weekend of bodily abuse, members come from many countries to these get togethers and any member is welcome.

i hope that explains some of the workings of DF and that you will appreciate the work that goes into keeping this board one of the most popular boards in europe, which we all do for free.

    Well said...
'Sausages! Hot sausages! Inna bun! Meat pies! Get them while they're hot!'
... Hole food! Hole food! Rat! Rat! Rat-onna-stick! Rat-in-a-bun! Get them while they're dead!'

yes i was joking. sorry about that, it was mabye a bit on the harsh side of joking.

at least your suggestion has been taken seriously by abcman as he said, since they allready thin out the board quite a bit.

Just post in HOS (Hall Of Shame) that way the admins/mods will have less fun moving daft threads.
