802.11g wireless bridge

Can anyone recommend one?

Personally I want to drill from my loft (where my main LAN is) to my bedroom (where my xbox is) and use CAT5 to get 100mbit but the misses recons I'd screw it up (and she's probably right).

I only need the bridge as I was going to get one of those £33 11g access points in biggy's forum.

Also can someone tell me what to expect bandwidth wise with 54mbps? On my full duplex LAN I get around 9.5 mbytes/sec so I recon with 11g I'd get around a third of that, i.e. 3 mbytes/sec. Am I far off my guestimation?

Ive got a 11g setup, gotta say the speeds are poor for transfering files.

I got around 2500kbps MAX and thats on a good day LOL.

But would still reccomend G.

If all you need a wireless setup for is sending files to ur xbox,And thats all you will prob need it for Ever, then i would go for the wired setup, I use patch cables when im sending files to me xbox, But i use wireless to send files from my lappy to my tower, BUT thats small files not 3-4 gig files.

Does take all day to send huge files to the xbox. (I was gutted to mate lol,Thought it would be abit quicker)

you will get much better speeds and performance obviously from the wired solution

linksys makes a wireless adaptor specifically for the xbox - you might want to take a look at that one

I want to stream movies (DVD, AVI, etc) and music from my main fileserver which is why I considered G over B since I knew B couldn't hack it ... but I am really surprised at how bad G is.

I've got a 25m cat5 which I'll run round the house for now until I can sweet talk the misses into drilling.

erm 802.11b streams video and mp3 perfectly, I've got a second xbox in the bedroom and it has a linksys wet11 connected to it, I use it to stream all the avi's, mpegs and mp3's I get from the pc using relax. No problems at all mate. And it's fine for small file updates (xbmp, evo-x etc). Obviously no good for large file tranfer, for that I bring it downstairs and plug it into the router!

Hmmm ... I would have thought it would have suffered with lots of pauses due to the low xfer rate/retry algorithms, especially during high atmospheric pressure days.

Anyway the price differential between B and G is so small that it would not make sense going for B.

It suffers no problem at all, and while I agree the price difference now is negligable, when I bought mine, g did not exist.

How far away is your xbox to your lan and what is the construction of your house? I read that old style houses which consist of brick internal walls (like mine is) can affect the signal quite drastically (which is understandable really).

The Wireless Access Point is down stairs in the living room and the WET11 (connected to my xbox) is in the bedroom, directly upstairs, my house is about 20 years old, so no internal brickwork. I have to admit I'd buy g now, but like I said it wasn't available when I bought mine lol. Have fun with it, it's really cool. It was what allowed me to have a second box in the bedroom, so the wife could watch 'Friends' and whatever else she had downloaded in bed

HOW FAR APART.

Thats another thing to consider,As my xbox is downstairs and my wireless router upstairs,the mbps transfer jumps around like a pogo stick world record holder.

Its find when im on the laptop couse it doesnt need high speeds for browsing.

But its another thing to consider.
