Getting "not responding" problems before burning.

Whenever I burn a CD to Cd on any of my 2 progs - Burning Rom or CD Clone, I just get a freeze up, followed by the "not responding" message for that prog. This happens after the PC has done the reading of the first cd and is about to burn a back up onto the blank CD. Never had this problem before.
Got the auto notification thing (that thing that turns on and reads your CD/DVD drive as soon as you insert a disc) switched off, as I always have had, for my CD/DVD writer, as I believe this can sometimes cause problems.
Has anyone any tips for me???

you could try removing the cd writer from the device manager thing.

when it comes back (after restarting) it might work again, and if it doesnt come back then it is ****ed and you can buy a new one. they are pretty cheap these days.

if it comes back and still dosent work you coud reinstall the programs in question, and possibly even reinstall all of windows.
