Default boot problem, devices go crazy

At the end of booting my pc tries to access the modem (not connected as I use broadband) and my floppy disk drive is accessed for about 15 sec. I've removed and crap from start up with ms config tool and it still happens. Boot time has increased too, any ideas?

    thanks

I would check it over with a virus scanner. Which one do you use? Do you have the very latest definitions?

do you use zonealrms? it sometimes makes dialup modems dial up

zonelarms could also cause floppy disk access if it is set to use a prog that used to saved on a floppy.

windows xp/2k also sometimes check the floppy drive when you boot up for no reason.

some instant messengers such as aol messenger, and some auto updating software, when installed asks you to confirm your method of connection, one of these possibly has the modem option selected instead of local area networl (LAN), avg anti virus for instance asks you to confirm a dial up connection, unless you uncheck this option it tries the modem first, just check all software that has the auto update function. gl.
