    Default solder = *******

    Hello guys,

    I'm trying to solder to points on my xbox so I can make the Bios writeable.... and god it is so dam hard. All I have to do is drop a tiny bit of solder between the two points but the ******* iron keeps o sucking the solder away... ahhhhh anyone have any tips for me? It is so frustrating!!

    nope.... I'm only using solder... no wires or anything else... i didn't think you needed flux...

    oh dear.. flux will make your job MUCH easier! Rush out to your nearest hardware store and pick some up. You'll be surprised the difference it makes

    hahahaha i kinda knew in the back of my mind..... but my girlfriend has managed to do the bottom of the unit really well... so we shall have to see if it works now... gulp

    well it works... so i didn't screw it up.... but the loading of the new bios will be the test.... i will have to do that another time... ohh exciting! oh what bios should i put on here anyway?

    I did mine without using any flux. A bit of a pain at first but it's ok after a while.

    Most of the threads I've seen about this go on about conductive ink and dropping it on the board with a pin alternatively I'd just mask off the board with tape myself and flux up the points before soldiring.

    Flux ? whats that then ?

    heres what you need to do....
    stick a good size bead of solder on each of the two pads...(as if you where going to soilder some wire to them) then heat up one bead of soilder and drag the iron across to the other pad.

    with a bit of luck the solder will bridge the two beads.

    i used the 007 AgentUnderFire hack, i was recommended the M7 BIOS, give me a shout if u need it.

    So you use flux to prepare the the thing you are trying to solder? Sorry for the thickwad question, but I've had no experience of soldering apart from lessons at college years ago.
