Default New PC - Teething problem

I powered up my new PC for first time, and saw nothing on the monitor, not even to show the amount of memory etc

I plugged the monitor into my old PC to verify that it was ok. fine.

Reconnecte to new PC , doubled checked the leads. still no joy when I power on and attempt to boot.

Cant do ctrl-alt-delt on keyboard - its wireless - so not sure if it has been detected yet.

I think I have a problem with my (GEFORCE 128) grahics card, or the connection with the lead.

    Anything else, before I take it back . . . .

    All suggestions welcome

Is this a comp you've built yourself?

If not, don't touch it just take it back to the place you got it from.

Off the shelf job. Thx for quick reply. I am hoping that the problem only lies with video card / connection thereof, as you here some noise on the disk drive at power up indicating normal health otherwise!

i got a new machine from dell and the monitor doesnt work when connected to the 15-pin crt port.

an adapter should have come with your card that connects to the dv port and converts it to a crt output. try that.

This may sound stupid but I had this problem. Try reinstalling memory and resit the heatsink and fan.

If its an off the shelf PC, that would invalidate warranties.

    Just take the PC back!!

    Problem 2.

On my old PC I had broadband via crossover adaptor plugeed into USB.

I plugged my NTL cable into my ethernet port directly on new PC, and expected it to work fine without needing to go thru the wizard, as dial up is not involved. What
    stopping it?

Don't bother with the NTL disk. It isn't really needed.

I understand my problem now. As wizard1974uk says, ntl (usb) driver not needed as I m plugged into the ethernet port.

I did not say before that I go thru the ntl STB, and have fixed the problem by powering that off and on.

However, that means if I want to use the old pc on the internet, I have to again 'reboot' the STB!
